What is PM Surya Ghar Yojana?

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is a central government scheme that gives households a direct cash subsidy for installing rooftop solar. The subsidy is paid straight into your bank account (DBT — Direct Benefit Transfer) once your system is installed and net-metered by your DISCOM.

The goal is simple: bring your monthly electricity bill down to near-zero while reducing the country's dependence on grid power generated from fossil fuels.

Who is eligible?

  • You own a residential property with a suitable, largely shade-free rooftop.
  • You have a valid electricity connection in your name.
  • Your roof has enough structural strength to support panel mounting (confirmed during a site survey).

Commercial and industrial properties are generally not covered under this particular residential scheme — separate incentives may apply, and our team can advise what's relevant to your building.

Documents required

  • Latest electricity bill (with consumer/account number)
  • Proof of address (matching the electricity connection)
  • Bank account details for DBT credit
  • PAN or Aadhaar for identity verification

Common questions

Yes, but most homeowners find the DISCOM paperwork easier to navigate with an experienced installer handling it for them.
