What is net metering?

Net metering lets you send surplus solar power back to the grid and receive credit for it. A bidirectional meter tracks both what you draw from the grid and what you export — you're billed only for the net difference.

How it affects your bill

During the day, your panels often generate more than you use — that surplus is exported and credited. In the evening or on low-sun days, you draw from the grid as usual. At billing time, your exports offset your imports, often bringing your net bill down to just fixed/minimum charges.

Getting net metering set up

1. Your installer applies to the DISCOM after your system is installed.
2. A DISCOM technician inspects the installation.
3. A bidirectional meter is installed, replacing your old meter.
4. Your billing cycle switches to net-metered billing from the next cycle.
